Covid-19

17 October 2021

We are beyond ready to get back to work and see everyone that we have missed so much and hope this finds you healthy, happy, and wishing to get back into regular routines. As we are all coming to grips with this round of the COVID-19 pandemic and what the future holds, we want to update you on the steps we are taking to ensure we keep our patients and our staff healthy.

Our team has spent considerable time over the past weeks preparing for our return under the stringent Covid-19 Level 3, Ministry of Health and NZ Dental Council guidelines. This is to ensure the health and safety of our patients and staff. The current Ministry of Health and NZ Dental Council guidelines at Level 3 mean that we have severe restrictions on the number of patients we can see and what we must do to look after them safely.

  • We can have only one patient in our entire clinical area and two patients in our consultation rooms at any given time.
  • There must be a 30-minute gap between patients to allow for required ventilation changes.
  • This results in us being able to see a third of our regular patient load each day.
  • Alternating days with respective Orthodontists and their staff, so our bubbles do not mix.
  • Increased health checks, patient flow administration & documentation, and increased setup and disinfection time, including strict PPE guidelines to ensure your safety.
  • We will be following rigorous scheduling protocols and office measures to comply with the Ministry of Health and NZ Dental Council guidelines.

We had to cancel almost 2000 appointments, and know that there is a strong desire to get your treatment back on track as soon as possible. As a result, we have started scheduling patients on a priority basis, not a first-canceled-first-rescheduled basis, and have been treating patients with emergencies, breakages, pain, and have been removing braces on patients that were due to have their braces removed. We ask for your patience and understanding while we manage this.

Appointments

  • Recall appointments will continue to be offered virtually, and we will let you know if you need to come to our practice.
  • There will be limited face-to-face appointments.
  • Please wait for our office to call you to reschedule your appointments. We have a very accurate and comprehensive list of every appointment canceled, including the day, type, and time.
  • If you need to contact us, please continue to do so by emailing our reception team
  • You will receive a Covid screening form via SMS to be completed before arrival.
  • It is mandatory to wear a mask and scan the QR code when you arrive at our practice.
  • Only the patient being treated will be allowed to enter the office. The only exception for this will be for our very young or anxious patients. Of those, only one parent/caregiver may accompany the patient. Strictly no other family members or friends will be allowed in the practice.
  • Maintain social distancing guidelines until seated in the treatment chair.

If you are experiencing financial hardship, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us here as your, or your child’s, continued treatment remains paramount.

We thank you for your ongoing support and patience and look forward to seeing you again soon!

To Our Turner Lim Orthodontic patients,

As you are aware, our practice is now closed until the Ministry of Health deems it safe for all non – essential dental care to be available again. This means that all appointments have been cancelled. We will keep you informed when our practice is able to open again.

Our focus now, is that our community stays safe during this lock down period. For our patients who are currently in treatment, here is some general advice:

If you are currently wearing retainers or removable appliances: Please keep wearing them as instructed by Donna or Fiona. When they are not being worn, please make sure they are stored in their retainer case, so they don’t get lost or damaged.

Elastics: if you are wearing elastics as part of your treatment, keep wearing them as instructed. If you have any concerns about your teeth moving in the wrong direction, please email us a photo of your back teeth biting together to email us so we can asses and advise what to do. If you need more elastics or wax, please email our team so we can arrange for you to get more.

Broken appliances like brackets: We are only permitted to see patients in extreme emergencies and when the patient is experiencing severe pain or discomfort. We are unable to replace broken brackets. For any immediate concerns or emergencies, please email us with a photo so we can let you know what to do.

Sharp/pokey wires: As above, please email us, ideally with a photo

Dental Monitoring patients: please continue submitting your scans at your scan intervals.

Invisalign patients: We worked hard to get plenty of aligners to all our current Invisalign patients, please email us if you have any queries.

General Care for your orthodontic appliances:
Please remember to keep your teeth, gums, braces and any appliances clean. Be very careful about the foods that you eat and remember to avoid anything sticky, hard or chewy.
Keep sweet foods and fizzy drinks to a minimum as they are very high in sugar and can cause tooth decay.
